Manufacturing – Inbrief Analysis, Norway 2017
Manufacturing is the biggest single market in Norway for both software and IT services expenditure.
It is dominated by a clutch of very large organizations such as Hydro, Statoil, and Yara, all of which are world leaders in their respective fields and highly mature in their approach to software and services expenditure. They are also often at the forefront in terms of adopting new trends within the software and services market, such as IoT, big data, cloud computing, and embedded systems.
Counterbalancing the influence of this small group of very large manufacturers is the Norwegian manufacturing industry’s very long ‘tail’ of much smaller organizations, for whom SITS expenditure is an area of emerging interest. The availability of ‘alternative’ models for accessing SITS, especially preconfigured and cloud-based solutions, means that SITS investment is no longer prohibitively expensive for SMEs. The international outlook of small Norwegian manufacturers also means that SITS investment provides a channel for reaching out to international markets in search of growth opportunities that are in harmony with their strategic priorities.
