Retail & Wholesale – Inbrief Analysis, Norway 2017

Being a country with rich oil reserves, the Norwegian economy has always been heavily dependent on oil sales. Owing to the sharp drop in oil prices that began in mid-2014, the Norwegian economy grew by only 0.8% in 2016.

In the retail sector, spill-over effects have been noticed, leading to lower growth in household consumption (which rose by 1.6% in 2016). Norway’s center for economic forecasts, SSB, believes that the worst effects of falling oil-prices are now over and expects higher growth of the economy going forward. The predicted 2.2 % growth in household consumption for 2017 is expected to also push revenues in the Norwegian retail and wholesale sector.
