SAS – VENDOR PROFILE – WORLDWIDE
SAS Institute (generally referred to as SAS) is the world’s largest privately held software company, offering a broad portfolio of software for business analytics, data mining, and data warehousing.
The company can proudly demonstrate continuous growth since its creation in 1976, although the pace eased in 2017, with SAS reporting a small growth of +1.3%, up to USD 3.24 billion. Areas such as visual and advanced analytics, data management, as well as cloud continued to be major drivers for new sales. However, fraud and risk are the new rising stars, with growth rates of around 15% in revenues compared to 2016. Cloud-related sales also grew by 15%, with more and more customers adopting the cloud alternatives that SAS offers. Besides SaaS or managed services, SAS increasingly promotes analytics-as-a-service or results-as-a-service, either provided by itself or through partners. In this way, SAS wants to enable customers to get the advantages and benefits of a best-of-breed analytics software program without investing in the entire system. This is not surprising as it is a natural continuation of their subscription-based model, though with fewer resources involved on the user side.
